“For people who are overweight and also experiencing back pain, it is probably not a coincidence. Being overweight is one of the common causes of back pain, especially in the lower back”

When considering that the majority of Americans are overweight, it is easy to see why back pain is becoming an epidemic in the United States. But the good news is back pain is treatable and obesity is also medically treatable with weight loss injections. Every pound on the body equals 4 pounds of pressure on the spine. This may come as a surprise for many, yet it is true. Someone who weighs 200 pounds is putting 800 pounds of pressure on their spine. Think of it like this: extra weight = extra stress on the spine and joints. Excess belly fat eventually causes the pelvis and lower back to slant forward. This creates a permanent and round arch in the back, which causes back pain.

“The strongest muscles are in the back. However, there is only so much they can handle. To effective treat back pain an overweight person will want to start losing weight”

We, at Physicians Rehabilitation, have always taken a multi-modality approach to treating chronic joint pain and osteoarthritis by offering various types of injection therapies, physical therapy, bracing, and interventional pain management, but now we are also offering medical weight loss options to help you with your long-term health goals. We are focused on not only helping you to gain mobility, improve your strength, and to live a pain-free lifestyle, but also getting you to look and feel your best! Yes, there are many available therapies to treat chronic joint pain from osteoarthritis such as oral anti-inflammatory medications, injectable steroids, hyaluronic acid treatments, and physical therapy, but one of the best treatment options for long-term pain relief is weight loss. As you lose weight, the pressure on the joints lessens and inflammation decreases, leading to less pain
